What is insulation installation?
Insulation installation in properties involves adding materials like fiberglass, foam, or cellulose to walls, attics, roofs, and floors to reduce heat transfer and improve energy efficiency. Properly installed insulation helps maintain a stable indoor temperature, reducing the need for heating and cooling, which lowers energy bills.
It also minimizes drafts, moisture buildup, and outside noise, creating a more comfortable living environment. Whether for new construction or retrofitting older homes, insulation is essential for enhancing energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting a more sustainable and cost-effective property management system.

What does Insulation Installation involve?
Insulation installation can involve a variety of steps depending on the type of insulation being installed, including:
Cavity wall insulation
A professional installer drills holes in the exterior wall, injects insulation material into the cavity, and then seals the holes. This is usually done with mineral wool, polystyrene beads, or polyurethane foam.
External wall insulation
This involves preparing the exterior of the home, applying insulation boards, applying a protective layer of render, and then conducting a final inspection. The type of insulation material used depends on the property’s requirements.
Internal wall insulation
A contractor will survey the home to determine which walls need insulation and then install insulated boarding on the inside face of the external walls.
Insulation Regulations & Recommendations in the UK
Loft insulation
The recommended depth of loft insulation is 270 mm, made from mineral or glass wool. For maximum energy savings, add 15 cm of insulation.
R-value
A good R-value for insulation in the UK is around 4.15 m²K/W. For optimal performance, aim for R-values above 4.54 m²K/W.
Building regulations
The minimum insulation requirements for building regulations in the UK are:
Roofs: 0.11 W/m²K
Walls: 0.18 W/m²K
Floors: 0.13 W/m²K
The Great British Insulation Scheme is a government energy efficiency scheme that aims to improve the least energy-efficient homes in Great Britain. Energy suppliers work with third-party installers to deliver the scheme.
